Background
The Gordi Family Foundation is a non-profit foundation with the aim to distribute annual scholarships to students in three universities and one student organization.
Dr. Toufigh Gordi received his Master degree in pharmacy and his PhD in biopharmaceutical sciences from Uppsala University. During his time at the university he was actively engaged in the Swedish Pharmacy Student’s Union (Farmacevtiska Studentkåren) by contributing to its journal (Reptilen) and functioning as coordinator of student exchange program. Dr. Gordi met his future wife, Dr. Eve-Irene Lepist while working on his PhD thesis in Uppsala.
Dr. Eve-Irene Lepist received her Master degree in pharmacy at Tartu University in Estonia. She participated in a research program at Uppsala University followed by continued studies toward her PhD at University of Copenhagen in Denmark. Dr. Lepist defended her thesis at Tartu University in 2000, as the first PhD in pharmaceutical sciences in the newly independent Republic of Estonia.
Both Dr. Gordi and Dr. Lepist spent two years at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of University at Buffalo as post-doc fellows.
Who Can Apply?
Students from one of the following four universities and Institutes are eligible to apply for the scholarship:
- Students at the Faculty of Pharmacy of Tartu University, Estonia. The scholarship is to be used to cover expenses in connection with attending a scientific conference.
- Students at the Research groups Translational PKPD and/or Pharmacometrics at Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences at Uppsala University, Sweden. The scholarship is to be used to cover expenses in connection with attending a scientific conference.
- Students at the Center of Excellence in Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics at University at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, USA. The scholarship is to be used to cover expenses in connection with attending a scientific conference.
- A-9 Farmacevtiska Studentkåren's members at Uppsala University, Sweden. The scholarship is meant to partly cover expenses of a Swedish pharmacy student working on his/her master thesis in another country.
Application Process
The amount for year 2020 for each of the four grants is set to $500. Applications for the scholarships are accepted through May 1st and the decisions by the Foundation will be announced on May 15th, followed by the transfer of the funds by no later than the end of the month of May. Decisions on who will receive the grant will be made in coordination with representatives from each institution. The following provide links to applications:
